As you can see, there are two action areas listed, Anemia and Nutritionist, and different hemoglobin values associated with these action areas. There are two action areas because we want to identify clients who are at risk for anemia as well as those who have much higher or much lower than normal hemoglobin values so they can receive more in-depth counseling and referrals. Any value at or below the Anemia cutoff is considered at risk for anemia, while any value outside of the Nutritionist range (less than or equal to 8.5 or greater than or equal to 16.3 in the non-smoker pregnant woman 1st trimester box) requires further investigation, as you’ll soon learn on the next page.
