Remember, WIC is screening for the risk of anemia, NOT diagnosing anemia. The accuracy of the Pronto and Hemocue is compared with the standard method used for hospital laboratory tests. But, may give readings that are higher or lower than the true value. Although they are less accurate than the testing method that requires blood to be drawn directly from a vein, they are reliable screening devices. Since the FDA has approved the device, you can trust the result you get from the Pronto. If you get a low or high reading, we do not expect you to retest using Hemocue.
